Simple Tricks To Avoid Weight Gain

I know this sounds a little far fetched but these simple tricks to avoid weight gain are really a matter of changing a few habits and it takes a little time to instill them habits into our brain, but it’s worth it. I have a friend that rarely has any issues with her weight, I never saw her snacking constantly and I always wondered why it took her so long to get ready for an evening out. I knew she was planning to eat at home but as long as she took I would say to myself, she’s had time to cook a large meal.

One day I got enough courage to ask what always took her so long if she didn’t have to cook. She replied, I don’t always have to cook something but it takes me a while to eat. Why is that I asked? She had never been on but one diet in her life and she said she would never go thru that torture again, so now I eat slower to enjoy my food and slow eating will trigger the brain when you’re full, so I don’t overeat. I replied, is that how you stay so small? That and limit my snack portions so I can eat the things I like without worrying about gaining weight. That was 30 years ago and she’s still within her recommended weight range.

I decided to give it a try and it really works and keeps the weight down and I don’t feel like I’m depriving myself. If I decide I want to eat a candy bar I offset it with a diet drink, no I don’t do that often at all, but I did take her advice and I’m glad I did. If you think the holidays are not the time to start, think again, that’s when all the goodies come out. It may sound foolish now but you have to start sometime, so prove to yourself you have the will power and follow the tricks below.

These few simple tricks to avoid weight gain, especially during the holidays, but if you deprive yourself of a snack you really want, you’ll only end up eating more. To minimize the intake:

  1. When you feel a slight urge to eat between meals, drink a glass of water and (example) eat 3 crackers or 6 grapes. Tell yourself to save enough for tomorrow’s snack.
  2. Eat a few almonds or pumpkin seeds there are actually good for you.
  3. Brush your teeth and drink a glass of water.
  4. Try to be the one with the most will power.
